Jamie came to Alloy with a concern that stops a lot of women from ever picking up a heavy weight: she was afraid of getting bulky.

She'd tried other trainers and group fitness studios before without finding what she was looking for. She wanted to get toned and strong, but she needed coaches who understood what that actually meant and could show her the path there.

She usually arrives a few minutes late, which has become as reliable as the weather. But she arrives with a personality that immediately fills the room: random trivia questions, jokes that land, and a gift for pulling everyone into the conversation. Sessions with Jamie in them are great sessions.

What's changed under the hood is more significant than her punctuality. She's learned to brace her core properly, which has started to correct the curve in her lower back. She's embraced heavier weights, a real shift from someone who came in worried about getting too big. She's chest pressing 30-pound dumbbells and getting after it 2 to 3 times a week.

Her family has noticed how much stronger she's gotten. And Jamie has discovered something important: lifting heavy doesn't make you bulky. It makes you confident.
